Welcome to Year 7
‘There’s no such thing as can’t’.
The transition from Primary to Secondary is a huge step in a child’s education. Some students embrace the change and others take some time to adjust. Our students will be encouraged and supported throughout the year to become strong learners; this is our motto ‘there is no such thing as can’t’. We want our students to feel comfortable making mistakes and to learn from them: knowing that as long as they try their best, they really can do anything if they put their mind to it.
Upon starting in year 7 our students are empowered to become independent and self-motivated. Our students are expected to actively participate in lessons, to be well equipped every day, and to meet our expectations of uniform and conduct. Students are rewarded for their motivation and dedication to learning, this can be through participating in extracurricular clubs and any other incentives that are offered throughout the year.
As a school we work hard to ensure a confident transition from primary, with introductory opportunities; this is to allow parents/carers and students to get a feel of what we have to offer.
A successful start in year 7 will set excellent foundations for the years to come. Every students will participate in personal, social and health education during their registration sessions and will develop and excellent relationship with their tutor. The students will see their tutor in the morning and afternoon and should have continuous dialogue about how their day is.
It is important to us that open communication takes place between the whole team; the tutor, the Achievement Team Leader and the parent or carer. Day to day contact can be made through any one of us. We would like parents and carers to be fully involved in their child’s learning, including completion of homework. The home/school planners are pivotal to continuous communication between school and home. Students are also required to have a reading book on them at all times, as reading for pleasure is heavily promoted.
Any discussion points or concerns you may have about your child’s progress can be raised by contacting your son/daughter’s form tutor, Mrs. Hockley the Raising Standards Leader, and Miss Ferris/Mrs Klein from the Pastoral Team; we will respond to you as soon as possible and assist you with your enquiry.
