The Y11 Guardian Foundation Workshop

Also in English this week, in order to support our Year 11 students with Language Paper 2, we invited The Guardian Foundation to deliver a virtual session on opinion writing during an English lesson for a group of Year 11 students.
Jane, from The Guardian foundation, helped the students think about topics and issues that they have an opinion on. Stu-dents brainstormed ideas about which they have an opinion on followed by being taught how to write a pitch for an editor. Students had to consider how they could use their stance on the topic to convince the editor that this was an article deserv-ing to be published.
Students shared a range of ideas from global warming to social media to how GCSEs are assessed, which Jane found very impressive.
