he theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2021:
Be the light in the darkness. This theme asks everyone to consider different kinds of ‘darkness’, for example, identity-based persecution, misinformation, denial of justice; and different ways of ‘being the light’, for example, resistance, acts of solidarity, rescue and illuminating mistruths.
Cecil Jones Academy commemorated this day by posting the links to the HMD website and advertising the ceremony, televised on Wednesday, on Google Classroom. We encouraged students to light a candle and place it in their window to show their support for the theme Be the light in the darkness.
Our CTL for History, Mr Hagger, created and voiced over a created a short video for students to watch to give further insight into what happened during World War 2 and why it is important to reflect and remember.
“We will continue to do our bit for as long as we can, secure in the knowledge that others will continue to light a candle long after us.”
