Welcome letter from the Headteacher

I am delighted to welcome you to Cecil Jones Academy, part of The Loxford School Trust, recognised by Ofsted as a High Performing School and judged as Outstanding in its most recent Ofsted Inspection.

We aim to prepare young people for an ever-changing world that values self-confident, well-educated and enterprising people.

It is a privilege to lead Cecil Jones on its journey to be a school of choice within the local community and to work in partnership with such enthusiastic children, committed staff and supportive parents and governors. We are also pleased to offer a wide range of enrichment activities to support and engage our local community.

Building on our past successes, we continue to seek new challenges and opportunities to help children fulfil their potential, both academically and socially, so that they leave us with the widest range of choices in a challenging society. We want every child to feel a welcome part of the school community.

To achieve this aim, we provide an education that meets the needs of young people, delivered in an educational environment that emphasises traditional standards of uniform, discipline and respect, whilst nurturing talent, ambition and the drive to succeed.

Everything we do at Cecil Jones Academy is centred on ensuring that each individual student is educated and supported to flourish in the world today – as an individual, as a partner, as a member of a team and as a citizen.

With excellent facilities and high quality teaching, the students at Cecil Jones Academy are happy, challenged and motivated.  The School is committed to ensure each student is recognised and celebrated for all their achievements, both in and out of school. A triumph can be seen in a variety of different ways and we strive to show all of our students each one is important.

I have been the Chief Executive Officer of the Loxford School Trust since June 2013 and the continuing Headteacher of Loxford School since January 2008.

Our partnership consists of 7 Academies. Loxford School is an All Through School, Aldborough is a Primary School and The Warren School, Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College, The Tabor Academy, Gaynes School and Cecil Jones Academy are all secondary schools.

In the Trust we believe that students come first and that every child can find a route to happiness, prosperity and success. The Trust was created to enable staff to work more closely together to deliver the best education possible for the students who attend our academies.

We are proud of the improvements we have seen in exam results and every School that has been inspected by OFSTED since they joined the Trust is now either good or outstanding. More of our students than ever before now have qualifications that stand out in comparison with other young people in the city.

Our vision is simple: we believe that by working together rather than in isolation we can accelerate our Academies to be outstanding schools. In doing so, together we create more opportunities for the lifelong success for our students as they become young adults.

We are pleased that your child will be joining us in September 2020.

We are sorry that we are unable to meet at present for an admission meeting.  We hope to have admissions meetings later in the year to give you more information about the school. We will also give your child and you the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have. In the meantime, please fill in our blue admissions forms that we have previously posted to you and return it to the school as soon as you can.

The admission form requires us to gather information such as parents’ address and phone numbers, your doctors’ name, address and phone number and the phone numbers for other emergency contacts.

Parent Pay invite letters will be posted to all new joiners by 17th July 2020, if you have not received your letter by Monday 10th August, then please contact the school office. If your Parent Pay account is not active as of the 2nd September, then this might mean your child will not be able to access any funds to purchase items from the school meal provider.

Normally our new students would join us in July to experience a day at Cecil Jones Academy.

Due to the current situation and government information we are unable to go ahead with this day as we normally would.

We will update this area of the website as we have more information for you about transition.

Over 100 year 6 students came to spend the day with us at Cecil Jones Academy today.

Students who will be joining us in September came along today to experience a day at Cecil Jones Academy in order to get rid of some of their worries about moving up to the Academy.

They went along to different lessons and met lots of members of staff. Every student visited our food technology department and made rock cakes to take home with them. They also visited the science department where they were using Bunsen burners. During this session they appeared to magically changed the colour of the flames from yellow to green and even red. There was a sensory experience in the English department and even some tricks from the maths department amongst the many activities that were running,

The students visited our Café during lunchtime and sampled some of the food available followed by some fun and games with the PE department during their break and lunchtime.

We ended the day with a short assembly where the students all received a certificate and a Cecil Jones teddy bear to keep as a memento of their day.

Students had a thoroughly enjoyable day with us here at Cecil Jones and we are all looking forward to September when they start their journey with us in earnest.

Free School Meal

A number of students have MOBILE PHONES.  Cecil Jones Academy fully supports parents who for safety reasons want their children to be able to speak to them in an emergency.

However, we cannot allow mobile phones to interrupt education.  The following rules will be strictly enforced:

  • Cecil Jones Academy will not be responsible for investigating damage, loss or theft
  • All phones must be switched off during the school day and not seen or heard
  • Any telephone causing interruption to a lesson or any other school activity, will be confiscated for a week and only released on production of a letter from the parent. This letter must promise it will not happen again.
