Mobile Phones
The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that all schools must operate as mobile phone-free environments by default. This requirement now forms part of the statutory Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance, which comes into force on 1 September 2026.

In line with this guidance, we will introduce lockable phone pouches for all students in years 7 to 11 from late October 2026.

PARENTAL/CARER RESPONSIBILITY
Our policy governs phone use during the school day. Outside those hours, responsibility for a child's phone use, including their access to social media, messaging apps and other content, rests with parents and carers. I would like to remind parents and carers that the school does not accept any loss or damage caused to mobile phones on the school grounds.
If a student loses the pouch or the pouch is accidentally damaged, there is a replacement fee. The first phone pouch is free and is covered by the £10 refundable deposit.
Students can ONLY use school phone pouches and they cannot be procured from elsewhere.
We ask parents and carers to check their child's phone regularly, remain aware of the apps and platforms they use and discuss online safety with them. Most social media platforms require users to be at least 13 years old and parental controls are available on most devices to help manage this.
Students who fail to follow this policy and are seen or found to have a phone on their person or switched on will have their phone confiscated and placed in the school safe for parental collection.
