From Alfie Corry, a Post 16 student:

Being able to be part of the Speed Stacks Event on March 17th was an absolute privilege. As well as being able to show off my skills and speed, I was a host of the team 3-3-3 relay.

The Year 7 team were a great group of students, being trained by myself and themselves, then going on to train the primary school students. After the two groups of schools came along, one of the teachers from a primary school asked me to show off my skill and speed. There I was, stood with my cups, the mat and timer in front of a cohort of over 100 people, students, teachers and the team UK Speed Stacks Company, watching intently. I was trembling, slightly terrified but also very excited. I lost my cool and shook, still with a huge smile on my face. I fumbled a few times and had a few mess-ups but I couldn’t care, I had to hype the crowd. I said ‘One more?’ with a hint of excitement, to which all of them replied with a screamingly loud YES. I managed to do better that time, that was a huge relief! I was also asked by a school for a group photo, which I couldn’t refuse. One of my primary school teachers asked me to get in touch and do an inspirational Speed Stacks assembly. On top of all that, the team and Speed Stacks department asked me to be part of Team UK, which is a huge yes from me. My Speed Stacking shall continue….. The organisers said that the sports leaders from the school were excellent. Their organisation skills were excellent and really helped out all of the primary children on their stations with clear instructions and support. Thanks to your Speed Stack champion , Alfie Corry, as he was amazing.

This week also saw some of our Year 10 and Year 12 sport leaders facilitate the annual KS2 Panathlon event. We were happy to welcome a number of students from our local primary schools who all enjoyed a great day out. The feedback from staff of the visiting schools was fantastic and our leaders did themselves and the academy proud!
