On Friday 25th September, students at Cecil Jones Academy showed that a little cake can make a big difference, raising an incredible £555 for Macmillan Cancer Support through a hugely successful Post-16 bake sale to support the nationwide Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Organised by the school's Post-16 students, the event brought the whole school community together, with students and staff enjoying a fantastic selection of cakes and treats throughout the day.

Macmillan Cancer Support contacted the academy following the event to thank students for their efforts. A spokesperson said:

“We can't thank you enough for participating and supporting Macmillan, as 98% of our income comes from donations, and we just wouldn't be able to do what we do for people with cancer without people like you.”

Richard Micek, Headteacher at Cecil Jones Academy, said: “I am incredibly proud of our students. Raising £555 is a fantastic achievement, but what impressed me most was seeing our young people working together and wanting to make a difference to the lives of others. A huge thank you must also go to our students, families and staff who baked, donated and bought cakes. It really was a whole-school effort.”

The fundraiser was a fantastic example of Cecil Jones Academy’s core values of Knowledge, Resilience, Respect and Kindness in action — and a very sweet success for a very worthwhile cause.
